US Lacrosse, Positive Coaching Alliance Extend Partnership

STANFORD, Calif. (Sept. 23, 2008) – Positive Coaching Alliance (PCA) and US Lacrosse have renewed and expanded their partnership for another year, continuing an alliance dedicated to a positive, character-building experience for youth lacrosse players.

"Our partnership with US Lacrosse remains a critical component of PCA’s effort to transform youth sports so sports can transform youth," said PCA Founder and Executive Director Jim Thompson. "At both the national and local levels, the lacrosse community is committed to the ideals of Double-Goal Coaching®. We look forward to building on key initiatives in conjunction with US Lacrosse."

Those initiatives include:

• Webinars on Positive Coaching for leaders of US Lacrosse-affiliated chapters and clubs, the first to be held on October 1.

• US Lacrosse requiring PCA Double-Goal Coach training for all US Lacrosse-certified top-level coaches.

• PCA offering discounts to US Lacrosse members who use PCA’s Online Double-Goal Coach Course.

• A revised grant program to help grassroots lacrosse organizations benefit from their own PCA partnerships, including live group workshops for organizational leaders, coaches, parents and high school-age players.

PCA’s live group workshops and online courses for coaches and parents help create healthier leagues with cultures where children look forward to practices and games as times when they will have fun, and where the joy they find in playing will last a lifetime. PCA also will conduct two workshops at the 2009 US Lacrosse National Convention and continue authoring articles for US Lacrosse’s monthly publication, Lacrosse magazine.

"PCA has been a terrific partner of ours for the last several years and we’re extremely pleased to continue this relationship," said Joshua Christian, managing director of programs and services for US Lacrosse. "Their values align with ours and they help lacrosse coaches become much more effective coaches and mentors."

US Lacrosse became the first national partner of PCA in 2001 and last year 1,536 lacrosse coaches participated in PCA workshops.

About Positive Coaching Alliance
Founded as a non-profit within the Stanford University Athletic Department in 1998, PCA has conducted roughly 6,000 live group workshops nationwide for more than 300,000 youth sports leaders, coaches, parents and athletes. Workshop attendees have helped create a positive, character-building youth sports environment for more than 3 million youth athletes.

PCA trains Double-Goal Coaches, whose first goal is winning, and whose second, more-important goal is teaching life lessons through sports. PCA workshops also help develop Second-Goal Parents, who focus on helping their children gain those life lessons.

PCA’s partnership network includes more than 1,100 youth sports organizations, cities and schools. In 2008, PCA will conduct roughly 1,500 live, group workshops across the U.S., primarily near hub markets of Northern California, Southern California, Chicago, Hawaii, Houston, New York City and Washington, DC, while assisting thousands of other individuals via online workshops.

PCA has the support of elite coaches and athletes, including Los Angeles Lakers Head Coach Phil Jackson as PCA National Spokesperson and National Advisory Board members such as NBA and NCAA Champion Coach Larry Brown, former senator Bill Bradley, NFL Hall of Fame Member Ronnie Lott, Olympic Swimming Gold Medalist Summer Sanders, Olympic Gold Medal Gymnasts Bart Conner and Nadia Comaneci, University of North Carolina Men's Basketball Retired Head Coach Dean Smith, Cy Young winner Barry Zito, and Kansas City Chiefs Head Coach Herm Edwards.
